Meditation has many benefits, including reducing stress, improving sleep, helping in addiction treatment, and managing chronic pain. Changes in the brain can even be observed on MRIs after an eight-week meditation course. The findings of numerous meditation studies are promising, but without information on how to implement meditation into our lives, most of us are unable to translate these results into benefits for ourselves. We’re left with the question: how can meditation serve me?
Learning a new skill can be intimidating. Knowing where to start can be the hardest part and sometimes it’s helpful to seek out guidance in order to make the learning process more supportive and thorough. Some questions you might begin asking when exploring meditation practices include:
1. Where am I able to practice in my area?
2. What am I intending to gain from meditation?
3. How much time am I able to devote to practicing?
4. Who is going to support me in my practice?
Meditation research shows promising results for many issues, but without learning ways to practice and incorporate meditation into your everyday life, the benefits will go undiscovered. Mindfulpath offers a Mindful Meditation Group in Santa Monica and Calabasas that gives you an opportunity to learn meditation’s uses, try different styles of mediation, process your meditation experiences, and gain the ability to incorporate meditation into your everyday life based on your unique needs. We will work with you to schedule meditation times outside of group and support each other in creating new habits.
For those of you suffering from chronic pain, we also have a Mindfulness for Chronic Pain group as well at Mindfulpath. Please view our website for more information.
